No Web Conferencing or Email Required

Even though our daily lives tend to revolve around technology and communications, we tend to forget that the real work still gets done with a good old hammer, nails and a bucket of paint–no email or software required.

Last month, about 40 “iLincers” gathered in South Phoenix one Saturday morning just after sunrise to work on two Habitat for Humanity homes. Everyone had a great time and we really made a difference completing the entire roofs on both houses, painting almost all of the eaves and exterior trim and installing all the windows. The future homeowners for the houses were there working with us the entire time and it was obvious what pride they had in their new homes!

Here are some pictures of the iLinc team at work.

I didn’t realize just what kind of reach Habitat for Humanity has–they’ve built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. It was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife, Linda. This was actually the second time we did this as an office and our intention is do it at least once a year. It was such a rewarding opportunity for all of us and a great way to give something back to our community.

Initially the concept of video conferencing was new to me but due to the change in technologies I felt that work and the performance of business can be effectively be increased positively due to the investment I made in more than one telepresence room. However, many telepresence solutions are now standards based, so they are compatible with other desktop.
