First off, I’d take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Christine Olivas, and I recently joined iLinc as the Marketing Coordinator. Over the coming months, I will be providing you with industry news, product training tips and best practices, and, of course, iLinc updates. Because Thanksgiving is only two days away, I wanted my first entry to be a few thoughts on the holiday.
This year, for the first time in six years, Thanksgiving travel is expected to decline. Faced with the high cost of flying and likely delays, people are foregoing trips across the country and staying local. With budgets tight but holiday expectations high, Americans are also looking for ways to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal at a fraction of the cost, and the web seems to be ripe with suggestions for hosting a feast for less.
Of course, whether or not you are traveling this Thanksgiving, you know that the value of the holiday lies not just in the simple pleasures of turkey, stuffing, and pie, but also in the interpersonal connections that are strengthened and built when family and friends get together to celebrate, well, being together. We at iLinc hope you have a memorable celebration—whether you are with one loved one or hundreds of your closest friends.
And remember that you can use iLinc to make your family gathering a global affair. Bridge the gap between your family and those who didn’t make the trip by hosting an iLinc online meeting. With its multi-point video and document/desktop sharing capabilities, iLinc for Meetings makes catching up online personal, and the tool’s simplicity of use allows all generations to participate. Meeting online may not keep the crazy aunts away, but it will certainly save you money and travel time—and keep you in touch with all the people who make your family unique. Try it out, and let us know how it goes!
