According to a recent study by Vertical Response, 75% of newer businesses (ones that started up the last ten years) utilize social media as part of their marketing and public relations strategy. However, of these newer businesses, 50% stated that lack of time or budget are key roadblocks to online marketing, while less than 5% ranked lack of technical skills or knowledge of the tools as significant obstacles to getting involved in social media.
This data shows that small businesses and startups everywhere are technologically savvy. Plus, they are aware of many of the social media and networking tools that are available to them. But it’s clear that time and money make getting involved in social media more complicated. After all, not everyone has a team of marketers that they can delegate their online marketing efforts to. Also, with so many new sites and tools being constantly unveiled, it can be difficult to determine which strategies make sense for a given business.
