Social Media: As Safe as You Think?

A recent cnet.com article discussed a security breach that occurred a couple months ago when an administrative employee at Twitter’s personal account was hacked. According to Twitter’s blog, the hacker was able to gain access to personal information as well as confidential company data.

Given that there are 55 million visits to Twitter each month, it’s not surprising that the web is abuzz over this incident and that social media junkies are concerned. It’s easy to forget that using social networking sites carries certain risks and that the same time-tested internet security rules apply. In fact, as Biz Stone, Twitter’s Co-founder, reminds us - this breach ”speaks to the importance of following good personal security guidelines such as choosing strong passwords”.

At iLinc, we agree that having good security guidelines reduces the risk of a breach. Therefore all employees are required to complete a Secuity Awareness Course which helps them understand how secure information is compromised and gives tips on preventing this from happening.

Additionally, our web conferencing solutions use established industry-standard security protocols (SSL & AES) which allow financial institutions and government agencies to transmit highly confidential information without concern.
