Social Media: As Safe as You Think?

A recent cnet.com article discussed a security breach that occurred a couple months ago when an administrative employee at Twitter’s personal account was hacked. According to Twitter’s blog, the hacker was able to gain access to personal information as well as confidential company data.

Given that there are 55 million visits to Twitter each month, it’s not surprising that the web is abuzz over this incident and that social media junkies are concerned. It’s easy to forget that using social networking sites carries certain risks and that the same time-tested internet security rules apply. In fact, as Biz Stone, Twitter’s Co-founder, reminds us - this breach ”speaks to the importance of following good personal security guidelines such as choosing strong passwords”.
